Pearl Drums and Their Superior Shell Technology

Pearl drums

The construction technique of pearl drums is known as Superior Shell Technology. Pearl drums are seamless drums of incredible strength. The company Pearl started by making shells, and, in 1960, it began making drums but kept the Pearl logo. It has since been endorsed by many famous drummers: Dennis Chambers, Eric Singer (from Kiss), Jason Hartless, Jon Larsen, George Kollias (from the Nile), Casey Cooper, and Gary Husband.

Pearl is a multinational company based in Japan. It is now known as Pearl Musical Instrument Company, and it sells inexpensive drum kits. In 1996, it introduced its first professional drum kit called the President Series. Since then, there have been many limited editions manufactured by this company. Some of the most celebrated is the Redline Series, the 50th Anniversary Series, and the Mahogany Series. Being a limited edition, these series are no longer produced or commercialized. However, they can still be purchased from stores selling used drum sets.

The Redline Series was released in the U.S. in 2008 and, in Europe, later that year. It was known for being one of the first drum kits dyed red. Similarly, the Mahogany Series was celebrated as one of the first drums constructed from African mahogany.

The innovation of Superior Shell Technology consists of shells that are slightly undersized so that the drum head would extend over the edges. Professional drummers have sought this technology, and many manufacturers still copy it.
