Why You Should Avoid Buying Brand New Musical Instruments… Especially Guitars
When you buy a new musical instrument, it has that “new” smell and you can boast to your friends that you got the latest model with allegedly the best design and features. However, that’s not always true; and these days you might be looking at an actual shortage of new musical instruments due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Buying brand new musical instruments makes sense on paper. However, it’s not actually very practical. First of all, you have to spend a lot of money on an instrument that literally loses part of its value very quickly after being used. It’s similar to buying a new car, except that new musical instruments are really no better than a well-kept older instrument – especially when it comes to guitars.
A lot of the time, guitars in particular don’t have to be
purchased new. Older guitars can retain their melodious sound to an impressive
extent as long as the body hasn’t suffered any damage. At the same time, the
strings can easily be replaced, and they are usually much newer than the body
itself, even if you buy it almost new.
Finally, another good reason to avoid buying new instruments is that they are in high demand and you might be facing long waiting lists to wait for your delivery – again, especially in the case of guitars. So, if you want your instrument to be affordable and high quality, and if you want it to arrive as soon as possible, aim for well-kept used guitars for sale that still look and sound almost perfect.
