Should You Sell Your Old Instrument and Buy a Brand New One?

The question of selling an older instrument and buying a new one is something that comes up quite often, especially with musicians of a beginning and medium skill level practicing a lot and not always knowing how to take proper care of an aging instrument. As you learn to care for you guitar, uke, piano or drum kits over time, you might notice some of the subtle mistakes you’ve made in the past have caused some damage to your instrument. So at some point, you have to think about replacing your old instrument.

Of course, there is more than one option. You can choose to repair or restore your instrument. If you’re good at woodworking, for example, you might already know how to fully repair a classical guitar to make it look and feel brand new – which is totally awesome!

However, the same can’t be said for some other instruments. An electronic piano, for example, could require advanced electronics skills or equipment that you simply don’t have right now. And maybe if you’re using a less common instrument, the materials used in its construction are rare and difficult to find.

So at some point, you might be better off just replacing used drum sets or other musical instruments and purchasing updated new or used versions. You’ll find a lot of online instrument stores also provide excellent cost-effective options for buying second hand instruments that can be almost as good as brand new ones.
