Tips for Cleaning Your Guitar Strings
Your guitar strings are essential components of
your guitar – without them there is no playing. One of the most common problems
that can compromise the quality of the sound delivered by your strings is the accumulation
of dirt – grime and grease can settle on the strings invisibly. Fortunately,
the problem is easy to remedy – here is how:
-
Place the guitar on a clean,
flat surface, such as a table and position it with the strings facing upward;
-
Select the cleaning solution
and the cloth for the cleaning – nylon strings can be efficiently cleaned with
plain water sprayed onto a piece of soft, clean and dry microfiber cloth or
paper towel, while in the case of metal strings, you will need special string
cleaning solution applied on a soft cloth;
-
Slide the piece of cloth on
which you have sprayed the water or the solution on the entire length of the strings.
Repeat the movement until the strings leave no dirt on the cloth. Clean both
sides of the strings, not only the surface facing upwards;
Finish the cleaning
applying the lubricant – choose a non-petroleum based lubricant and apply the
same way as you have applied the cleaning solution.If you want someone to walk you through this process, check out a guitar Colorado Springs retailer for professional help.
