Why Do Guitars Have Different Shapes?
If you are interested in finding acoustic used guitars for sale, you have probably noticed that they come in many different shapes.
They all look cool, but the most important factor that determined the
development of the various shapes was not appearance, but sound – here are some
of the most common guitar shapes and their features:
-
Parlor – the smallest
of all acoustic guitars, parlor models work best for beginners and amateur
players and they are great for fingerpickng;
-
Model O – a bit larger
than parlor guitars, O models deliver a balanced sound and great bass;
-
OO Models – also called
Grand Concert guitars, these instruments are not very loud and they offer a
balanced mid-range sound, making it perfect as an all-around guitar;
-
Orchestra Model or
Grand Auditorium (also called OM or GA) – this is a mid-size guitar that is
great for finger-play and spectacular for solos;
-
Dreadnought – the most
common shape for acoustic guitars, dreadnoughts are larger than most other
guitars and they are great for accompanying singing. They deliver a beautiful
bass;
-
Jumbo guitars – the
largest guitars of them all and the best for strumming, jumbos are the most
common choice of those who want to play folk music.
