Common Guitar Repairs
A
guitar is like an extension of your arms when you start playing. You are used
to its shape, color and feel. You would do anything to extend its useful life
and push ahead the day when you need to replace it.
To help
you out, here are a few common guitar repairs you can perform:
1. Finish Repair
Guitars
can get scratched or their lacquer finish becomes dull over time. Some of the
deeper cracks cannot be fixed. The smaller and most recent ones can be removed
by wet sanding, buffing and then applying a fresh coat of lacquer.
Attention!
If you own a vintage guitar, attempting to remove some of its cracks by
refinishing will actually decrease its value. Check with vintage guitar Colorado Springs repair experts for additional info.
2. Body Binding Repair
Over
time, the parts where a guitar has to withstand most stress give out. These
parts are those where various body parts are bound together. Depending on how
serious the damage is, you can repair it with glue or by heating and pushing
the binding back in shape.
Please
note that repair by adding any materials (pieces of wood, cardboard, etc.) to
the binding area in the attempt to reinforce it will change the sound and
acoustics of the guitar.
3. Fretboard Repair
The
fretboard is an important part of the guitar – and one which withstands a lot
of mechanical stress. On occasions, you may feel that it is coming loose. To
fix this issue, you have to completely remove the fretboard, clean its back and
the guitar neck properly (by fine sanding if necessary) and glue it back in
place.
