How to Keep Your Guitar Picks in Good Condition
Guitar pickups, also called simply
guitar picks, are sensors placed underneath the strings and used on electric
guitars to generate sound. In their simplest forms, these small sensors consist
of coils wrapped around magnetic poles. The strings used on electric guitars
are also made from magnetic material and their vibration generates signals that
are picked up by the coil and transferred to the amplifier to create audible
sound.
Guitar picks are essential
components without which electric guitars cannot work, so the maintenance of
the part is very important – here is how to do it:
-
Cleaning – some pick
types are more prone to rust than others, but all picks need some cleaning
every now and then. Use some penetrating oil and a piece of soft cloth to rub
off the rust and other impurities gently. Make sure that the cloth used does
not contain any ferrous material and don’t let too much liquid penetrate among
the components of the pick;
-
Proper storage – guitars
and their components, including the picks, need relatively constant temperature
and humidity to work best, so always store your guitar in its case, in a room
in the center of your home, never in an uninsulated garage or in a place where
the atmosphere is not constant.
Remember that you can buy used musical instruments online along with guitar picks and other music products for your convenience.
