How Should You Approach Getting Your Kids Interested in Playing Music?

Music is easy if you really have a connection with it. In the case of your children, their somewhat impressionable natures will allow for more freedom when it comes to guiding them towards any particular instrument or music style. In other words, they’re not typically as set in their ways as you are.

That being said, you still have to respect a child’s preferences. It is extremely crucial to do so, since children carry memories of high or low self-esteem and freedom of self-expresson into adulthood. If you try to be too controlling, they might end up just doing what you want and ignoring their own dreams and desires.

If you want to get your kids interested in playing music, you have to approach it in an “allowing” way. Try to see if they might be interested, instead of setting out with the clear-cut desire and intention to “make” them interested.

Surround your children with musical toys and show them the joy of interacting with musical instruments. Show them how fun it can be to spend family time with music and musical instruments, and bring your own guitar or keyboard to the party, so they’ll experience all the tunes, rhythms and melodious sounds firsthand. Ultimately, they will be the ones to decide, and you might be surprised just how eager they’ll be in following your lead.
